Be wary about lead paint layers in older homes. If it tests positive follow all safety precautions to avoid inhaling it letting the dust get in your eyes on your skin or letting paint flakes gather in your soil. Window painting can take several hours depending on the preparation. Sanding the surface of the existing paint will also help the new primer and paint adhere better.

This will make the job of window painting easier. Start with the pieces in the window grid called muntins if there are any. If they are they dirty or contain a collection of spider webs then the windows will need to be cleaned before you paint the window trim. Dust the windows when you are done sanding.

Following this pattern will give you a nice neat. If possible remove the sash from the frame. Sand the scraped window surface. Overlap the primer and paint onto the glass to create.

Paint onto the glass. Lap paint slightly onto the glass as you paint window muntins and sash. However painting exterior window frames is a rather time consuming project. Prime any bare wood.

Complete the exterior house painting job by smoothing the paint in the center of the panel with long sweeping strokes keeping well away from the completed edge. Then paint the horizontal pieces followed by the vertical pieces. You want to create a very smooth transition between the remaining paint on the window trim and the areas that were scraped down to bare wood.
