A rusted utility trailer is by no means past its useful life. Apply the metal etching primer to the rusted galvanized metal roof using the roller. In fact repainting a rusted utility trailer every few years will extend its life. This may be easier if you pour some of the roof coating into a paint pan.

Galvanized metal roofs are usually painted with acrylic based paint. Find either oil based or acrylic based paint at your local home improvement store. You can update your roof and prevent further rusting by cleaning it up and giving it a fresh coat of paint. The key to a successful paint job is to remove as much of the rust as possible before painting.

Refresh rusted metal with new paint. Begin at the far side of the roof. Some historical homes have terne metal roofs and these need to be painted with oil based paint. Roll in a vertical motion working backward toward the extension ladder.

You may also want to seal off the rusty area with a commercial rust sealer. Apply the roof coating to the roof with a clean brush or roller. Wait three hours for the metal to dry.
